Day 1 Phillip Island
Today we discover the magic of Phillip Island. We drive south-east from Melbourne to reach Moonlit Sanctuary Conservation Park where you will meet endangered species, kangaroos, wallabies and koalas plus an array of colourful birds and reptiles. Upon arrival on the island, we visit the western corner of the island to enjoy magnificent views of Bass Strait and the Nobbies from a breathtaking boardwalk. If we are lucky we may even see our very first penguins in their burrows.
Optional activity: Why not take to the sky and see Phillip Island from a different perspective?? You will check out Cape Woolamai, Seal Rocks the Australian Grand Prix Circuit and Summerland Beach from above. A helicopter ride with Phillip Island helicopters is an unforgettable experience!
We travel to Cowes, to check into our accommodation and get ourselves ready for the bucket list spectacle – the world famous penguin parade at Summerland Beach. See the brand new Visitor Centre, an experience in its own right, featuring interpretive habitat space, providing us with a “penguin eye” view of the world as well as a dedicated education wing and plenty of options to indulge in some retail therapy for that crucial souvenir. We watch the penguins come ashore, decked out in their tuxedos as they hurry off to find their burrows. You will be treated to viewing the penguins at a very special viewing platform close to their favourite spot to exit the water. Return to Cowes to our accommodation for the evening
Overnight: North Pier Hotel, Cowes
Day 2 Wilson’s Promontory
The southernmost point of the Australian mainland, Wilsons Promontory is arguably the most loved National Park in Victoria. Its 130 km coastline is framed by granite headlands, mountains, forests and lush, green fern gullies and is considered the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria.
We depart Phillip Island, early morning and pick up our lunch along the way. On arrival at “the Prom” we check in to our wilderness adventure cruise. We travel in a world first custom built amphibious boat and witness iconic South Point, the southernmost tip of mainland Australia and the breathtaking coastline of this pristine wilderness area. This is a truly once in a lifetime experience.
Afterwards, we enjoy a delicious picnic in breathtaking surrounds, before heading off on foot for a walk through the Lilly Pilly rainforest, a gentle loop track along a serene boardwalk, meandering through lush, temperate rainforest, harking back to a time when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, reminders of Gondwanaland are everywhere..
We get sand between our toes on Squeaky Beach, one of the most pristine beaches in Australia before returning to Melbourne late after an adventure filled two days.
