Oceania’s new urban tour gives visitors a taste of Melbourne’s Aboriginal Heritage.

Melbourne boasts a rich history with none more compelling than its Aboriginal Heritage. Starting in September, this new tour will provide visitors with an authentic, first-hand experience of the stories of the Koorie people.

Oceania Tours and Safaris, owned and operated by Sebastian Topet, is an expert small tour operator, running day tours and extended tours in Melbourne and Victoria. Oceania works predominantly in the US, UK, Italian, Spanish and German markets. Oceania has solid distribution partners in these markets and works closely with Tourism Victoria and other government bodies in the Marketing of its tours.

Increasing demand for Aboriginal experiences in Australia’s major cities has inspired Oceania Tours to create a tour to show visitors that there is more to Melbourne than the modern metropolis that we see today.

Our Aboriginal Melbourne Tour

Beginning at the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, guests will experience a traditional smoking ceremony with an Indigenous Guide and discover how the native flora was used by the traditional owners of the land for food, tools and medicine.

Tradition gives way to modern indulgence as the tour heads to Charcoal Lane in the eclectic fashion and culinary hotspot Gertrude Street. Guests will experience a feast for the senses; touching, smelling and tasting a range of Aboriginal ingredients followed by lunch with a message; Charcoal Lane is a social enterprise that provides young Aboriginals with fresh opportunities in hospitality.

A visit the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Melbourne Museum will provide an interactive learning experience about Victoria’s First Peoples and Melbourne’s Indigenous cultural heritage.

Finally, a day celebrating Melbourne’s Aboriginal significance would not be complete without a visit to Federation Square, now a striking modern public space but historically, a significant meeting place for the Kulin nation. Visitors will learn about our special square and have the opportunity to visit the brand new Koorie Heritage Trust Musuem.

The day tour is priced at AUD$209, is fully commissionable and will operate on Wednesdays and Fridays from September 2015 for a minimum of two passengers.
