Itinerary

Take in the sights, the sounds, the smells and last but definitely not least the indulgent taste experiences in Victoria’s 3 premier wine regions, the world renowned Yarra Valley, the magnificent Mornington Peninsula and the breathtaking Bellarine Peninsula.

On this 3 day gourmet food and wine tour there is ample opportunity to taste world class cheese, wine & chocolate, stroll through historic gardens, soak in world class Hot Springs and see it all from the sea on a very special ferry crossing.

There is so much to see and do, but rest assured there is still plenty of time to take it all in and relax in the spectacular surroundings.

Day 1   Yarra Valley

The Yarra Valley, only a stone’s throw from Melbourne, is renowned for its exceptional cool climate wines, historic gardens and spectacular lush, green rolling hills.  We start the day with a visit to Coombe Yarra Valley, once the home of Dame Nellie Melba.  We stroll through the stunning gardens and beautifully appointed facilities before heading to Rochford Wines for a totally unique experience – you will have the opportunity to blend your own wine.  You will be guided by an expert provided with tasting charts and aroma kits to help you in the task. It’s great fun but watch out, it can be fiercely competitive as we judge winners. Next up is a French provincial lunch at the exquisite Dominique Portet known for its cool climate and refined, contemporary wines.  Settle in for a delicious 2 course menu, in a relaxed atmosphere and picturesque setting.

Afterwards it is on to the famous and very grande Domaine Chandon, one of 5 spots in the world that French Champagne Château Moet et Chandon have chosen to make their exquisite champagne, locally called sparkling wine. Here you will enjoy a generous tasting and learn about their fabulous Australian story.

Last stop for the day is the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, a family owned business which celebrates all things chocolate.  Naturally, we have organised a special treat for you – your very own private chocolate tasting session.

We take some time to relax after check in to the spectacular Balgownie Estate and meet our fellow travellers for a memorable welcome dinner at the vineyard restaurant.

Overnight: Balgownie Estate Vineyard Resort & Spa

Day 2   Yarra Valley | Mornington Peninsula

Optional extra:  For those that don’t mind getting up early you won’t be disappointed, this is definitely one straight from the bucketlist! A balloon flight over the Yarra Valley, as the sun rises over the rolling hills covered in early morning mist, is a truly a magic experience capped off with a delicious champagne breakfast.

The Mornington Peninsula, located a short distance south east of Melbourne, playground of the rich and famous,  is renowned for its decadent experiences – gourmet dining directly at the farmgate or at a prestigious vineyard, indulging in some of Australia’s best cool climate wines, artisan ales and ciders, all the while connecting with local food producers, artists  and craft people.

Late morning depart the Yarra Valley for your short journey to the Peninsula.

On arrival our first port of call is the tres chic Jackalope for a unique wine immersion experience. We explore the vineyard, delve into their wine growing & making philosophy and enjoy ample samples of their ferments and barrel selections straight from the cellar. After our Hare’s share lunch we head off to fabulous Montalto Estate.  We taste a sample of their multi award winning wines and explore the spectacular sculpture trail.  An integral highlight of the property, it winds its way through the beautiful natural gallery which provides a perfect backdrop for the sculptures.  The theme is continued at Point Leo Estate, which is home to the famous Sculpture Park- an outdoor art gallery featuring over 50 Australian and International pieces and hosts spectacular views over Western Port Bay and Phillip Island.

Our final stop for the day is Gordon Studio Glassblowers, Red Hill.  Glassblowing is an age-old art, a craft whose traditions go back thousands of years, the techniques and tools that remain largely unchanged can be witnessed live at the studio. You will see the blowing room and the searing heat of the furnaces and observe resident glass artists working with molten hot glass. A truly unique experience to witness the ancient techniques used to work hot glass and shape it with tools, adding colour, blowing air and harnessing gravity to create beautiful art glass forms.

We take some time to relax after check in to Woodman Estate and meet our fellow travellers for a dinner in beautiful surrounds.

Optional extra: The multi award winning geothermal Hot Springs & Day Spa is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most loved attractions. Imagine yourself immersed in healing waters that come from a well deep below the earths’ surface. The water is infused with natural minerals which detoxify the body and rejuvenate the spirit. There is nothing quite like experiencing the sunset from a hilltop pool, bathing under a sparkling night sky and seeing the trees lit up with fairy lights.

Overnight: Woodman Estate Luxury Accommodation

Day 3   Mornington Peninsula | Bellarine Peninsula

This morning we cross Port Phillip bay by ferry to the Bellarine Peninsula. We sail on pristine waters passing marine national parks, view spectacular coastal scenery and clifftop mansions. If we are lucky we may even spot some dolphins and seals as they accompany the ferry on its journey.

On arrival we head to the legendary Queenscliff Brewery, a craft beer haven with over 400 craft beers to try.  If beer does not tickle your fancy there is always the whisky, the gin or the cider available during our private tasting session.

We continue on to the fabulous Jack Rabbit winery and restaurant, perched high on the majestic cliffs, amid rolling paddocks and vines. The unrivalled views across the bay to Geelong and Melbourne are positively breathtaking and make for a perfect setting for our lunch today.  We also enjoy a guided tasting session of their sophisticated cool climate vines and soak up the intimate coastal atmosphere, before heading to Oakdene Estate, a multi-award winning vineyard to round up a perfect afternoon.

Our final destination before heading back to Melbourne is the historic Geelong foreshore and what a special treat awaits!  We meander along the famous Bollard Trail, which features the marvellous work of artist Jan Mitchell who single handedly transformed old timbers and piles from a city pier into 104 remarkable works of art.  The bollards represent a fascinating and fun chronical of the city’s past and focus on unique characters that play a part, from Eastern Beach Life Savers, to the bathing beauties from a by gone era, from nurses to policemen, there is an eclectic mix on display.

Late return to Melbourne after an eventful 3 days.
